About

Hello there! I hope you are well. My name is Dave O’Connor, but I have recently been referred to as “Dave Abroad.” The name was given to me on my semester abroad while I studied with the IHP program in NYC, India, Senegal, and Argentina. After an unbelievable, humbling, adventurous, and educational semester I am headed to South Africa!

Reason for going: Father Smith Fellowship

This past year I have been working on a proposal for the Father Smith Fellowship. The basic guidelines were that I needed to find a Dominican community, contact them, and come up with a plan. Through guidance from above, I ended up getting in contact with Irish Dominicans who had contacts in South Africa. It is through the Irish Dominicans that I was introduced to Brother Dominic Chiotad, a brother from Zimbabwe. Brother Dominic established The St. Martin De Porres Development Center, a program that works to assist poor and orphaned youth ages 3-18.
